Love Bird

‘Love Bird’ 21x29.5cm, acrylic on board. It seems fitting to share something dysfunctional on Valentine’s Day. I’ve shared the significance of broken ornaments here before. I’m interested in their layered history, evolving/degenerative form, and changing meaning/value. This was a pair of ceramic love birds from my granny’s house. They were knocked over during a time that felt chaotic. The fragments are carefully and ritualistically laid out in front of a self portrait. This is an idea I plan to expand on although it feels a bit vulnerable.
