Oracle

'Oracle' acrylic on canvas, 60x84cm.

This is a double image reflected in the mirror. The pose had a surreal quality to me and I love that a potentially provocative, sexualised position instead felt playful and architectural-the figures reminded me of the megaliths or pillars you pass through in order to enter a sacred building. We tend to have a very clear visual language about whether particular positions or poses are submissive or dominant, masculine or feminine and it has always been part of my practice to mix these up, but in this case I feel the gaze is different and I read this imagery differently and wanted to study and luxuriate in this. I wanted the double image to vibrate. The water droplets are something I use to tell you that what you're looking at isn't real or might be a dream.
